Fine Wool Care Guide

Washing instructions

Take special care of your allume knitwear to prolong its life. Frequent washing is not required or recommended. To retain softness, wash by hand or machine wash using the delicate cycle and your allume laundering bag after about 6-8 wears.

Merino wool is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial as the lanolin in the sheep's wool repels odor-causing bacteria. The thin waxy coating of wool fibre contains fatty acids that inhibit the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria. This means that you do not need to wash regularly to maintain a clean garment after repeated use, unlike synthetic fibres.

Hand washing is always preferred; however, our garments are machine washable. While dry cleaning is not advised, if done, once per season is enough. Excessive dry cleaning creates an over exposure to chemicals which can shorten your garment's life span.

Machine wash instructions:

1. Turn your garment inside out and place inside the mesh laundry bag included with your garment. Very important: ensure the zipper is tucked behind the elastic cover to prevent the bag from opening when washing. Do not wash with any additional garments.

2. Using a small amount of cashmere detergent or mild baby shampoo, run the machine on its coldest temperature setting and its most delicate agitation setting.

3. After washing, gently place the garment flat, lightly stretching it back to its original shape to prevent shrinkage. Lay the garment on a clean and undyed towel allowing it to air dry.

Hand wash instructions:

1. Turn your garment inside out and place in a basin or tub of lukewarm water.

2. Using a small amount of cashmere detergent or mild baby shampoo, soak for no longer than 5 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

3. Remove from bath ensuring the entire weight of the garment is supported to prevent uncontrolled stretching. Gently place the garment flat, lightly stretching it back to its original shape to prevent shrinkage. Lay the garment on a clean and undyed towel allowing it to air dry.

Do not tumble dry. Do not dry with direct heat. Do not wring. Do not bleach. Do not store on a hanger.

Depilling your garment

When wearing a garment knitted from delicate fibers such as Cashmere or Merino Wool, pilling is inevitable, no matter how good the quality. This happens when fibers become loose and start to form small fuzzy balls. Luckily—there is a solution. To keep your garment always looking brand new, we recommend using a Wool Comb. It's best to depill prior to laundering.

Depilling instructions:

1. Lay your garment flat.

2. Brush your garment in one direction using short and light strokes.

3. Remove excess fuzz with a lint roller or duct tape in between sections.

We do not reccomend combing your garment more than twice a year. Excessive combing can cause fibers to become loose causing more pilling.

How to store your garment

We recommend keeping your garment folded in our storage box or bag to prevent moths, wrinkling, and morphing. To neatly store your garment, use the fold board included with your garment as follows:

1. Lay the garment face down placing the fold board below neckline.

2. Fold the right third of the garment over the fold board.

3. Fold the right sleeve over the folded portion from Step 2.

4. Fold the left third of the garment over the fold board.

5. Fold the left sleeve over the folded portion from Step 4.

6. Fold the bottom half over.
