Planting Trees to Tackle Climate Change
"In West Virginia alone, we’re planting more than 400,000 native trees that help capture carbon. It’s part of our larger goal here to protect at least 100,000 acres of Appalachian forests– twice the size of Acadia National Park—in the next few years."
"We expanded our 20 years of bison conservation, spanning 12 TNC preserves across North America, into a new bison program at Great Sand Dunes National Park through a partnership with the National Park Service."
"We’re partnering with shellfish growers hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic to buy their oysters and rebuild imperiled shellfish reefs. 5 million oysters will help rebuild reefs at 20 restoration sites in New England, the Mid-Atlantic and Washington."
WHY THE NATURE CONSERVANCY?
"Our mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. To achieve this, we must boldly address the biodiversity and climate crises over the next decade. By maximizing our ability to affect change between now and 2030, we can shape a brighter future for people and our planet."
The Nature Conservancy is tackling the dual threats of accelerated climate change and unprecedented biodiversity loss. Science determines where we focus and equity guides how we achieve lasting results. Grounded by decades of local on-the-ground experience, we maximize our ability to affect change by bringing together real-world solutions, policy expertise, sustainable financing and collaborative partnerships.
"Science, the foundation of our work, is solving conservation’s biggest challenges. Recently, our scientists proved we can create a world where people & nature thrive if we act now."
"We use a practical, nonpartisan approach to show policymakers across the political spectrum how nature can provide effective solutions to major challenges like climate change."
Working with Companies
"The private sector has a significant impact on our climate & our natural resources. That’s why we're applying our science & expertise to help businesses make better decisions."
Partnering with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities
"Lasting conservation must actively involve the people linked to the natural systems we seek to protect. Their voices must be at the center of what we do. We are continually learning and growing in how we show up as an authentic, ethical partner."
Technology & Innovation
"We must work smarter to achieve our conservation goals. New technologies & collaborations with private startups allow us to leverage the power of disruption to conserve faster."
Nature Lab Educator Resources
"Nature Lab is The Nature Conservancy's youth curriculum hub. Access educational resources to teach students how nature works and how we can help keep it running strong."
Finance & Investing
"By catalyzing more investment in nature's services, we can unlock new sources of capital that allow us to scale up our work far beyond what traditional funding can do alone."
